With the warm days behind us and fall fast approaching you might find yourself heading to your local coffee shop on a more regular basis. Maybe it’s time to switch things up and a a bit?  Ditch the coffee and instead try a warm and comforting Golden Turmeric milk (latte) with a hint of sweetness and spices.

Not familiar? This is nothing but “turmeric milk,” a drink which helps to soothe the throat during a cough and cold. Both turmeric and ginger have incredible anti-inflammatory properties, which means this soothing and delicious latte is also really good for you. Turmeric is the vibrant orange-yellow spice affectionately known as the magic sword against inflammation.  With all the healing benefits, you can taste the inherent goodness with each sip. It is just as delicious as it is nutritious. Drink up!

Ingredients

2 cups almond milk (or the milk of your choice)
1 Medjool date soaked in water (and crushed) or you can use 1 teaspoon honey
1 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Ginger powder
½ tsp ground Cinnamon
Pinch of ground Nutmeg and ground Cloves
small pinch of black pepper

Directions

Simply pour all ingredients into a small pan or heat resistant cup and bring to a light boil. Don’t walk away, because milk can boil fast! Whisk well to combine all ingredients. Then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 15 minutes, the longer it will simmer the stronger the flavors will be.  You can strain the milk if you have large pieces. Serve warm.

Variations

Add 2 whole cardamom pods while the milk is boiling. Also for decoration, add star anise on top for an artistic contrast to the foamy milk and cinnamon.

Cheers!
